Why did we move to Taiwan???!!!!
In 2002, Michael was the pastor of Desert View Baptist Church in Winslow, Arizona, and I was a full-time faculty member at Northland Pioneer College, the job for which I had strived for years. Life was good.
That October Michael joined several others from Desert Pines Baptist Association in Arizona to go to Meinung, Taiwan to prayer-walk and assist missionaries of Hope for a Hakka Harvest. Michael returned home to the US excited about the work in Taiwan, wanting to return full-time. A missionary came out to Arizona the following March to speak with churches, and Michael and I agreed to travel to Taiwan the following July to seek God’s will.
That July Michael and I spent three hot and humid weeks in Taiwan, returning with a sense of God’s urging that they go there full-time by the next year. And that’s we they did!
In August 2004, I started working as a middle school English teacher at Morrison Academy in Dashe, Kaohsiung, 30 minutes away from Meinong. Michael worked at Meinong Kindergarten teaching preschool English.
August 2005-July 2006 Michael worked full-time at the Kindergarten, and I taught small groups in Meinong. I also met weekly with a missionary for training on how to share the gospel. It was a learning time and a great year of seeing Hakka people come to Christ. A man Michael led to Christ the first year here was baptized Resurrection Sunday 2006 and is now attending a Bible college. Desert Pines Baptist Assocation continues to send a group here annually.
Now, as we have moved 45 minutes from Meinong to Neipu, we are excited about the potential for a campus ministry and for more people to come to Christ here. We appreciate your prayers as we now live in a city with fewer missionary friends nearby, but just as many opportunities to share the love of Jesus.
